    Now in its 32nd year, the AFI European Union Film Showcase continues its tradition of bringing the best in European cinema to Washington audiences – with 46 films representing all 28 EU member states, including award winners, regional box-office hits, debut works by up-and-coming talents and new works by leading auteurs, plus 11 of the top contenders for this year's Academy Award® for Best International Feature Film and 10 U.S. and North American premieres.

    Can't get enough of European film? With the Passport, you'll zip right past customs (the AFI Silver box office) and be admitted to every film in the showcase, NO TICKETS NEEDED. The all-access Passport gives you admission for one to every screening, including Opening and Closing Night and Special Presentations. At the end of the showcase, you can see how many countries you "visited" by checking the stamps in your Passport. Valued at nearly $700, the Passport is an incredible deal!

    Passport does not guarantee admission for late arrivals. Empty seats are opened to standby patrons 10 minutes prior to showtime, and late seating is subject to management discretion. Passport holders should plan to arrive at least 10 minutes prior to showtime to ensure admission.

  • French identity politics discussion, 12/05

    French identity politics with ICWA fellow Karina Piser

    Thursday 5th December 2019 — 12:00pm to 1:30pm

    Please join us at the Alliance Française of Washington, DC for ICWA fellow and journalist Karina Piser's discussion about French identity politics, in which Karina will report about French government initiatives to promote the state policy of secularism and Muslim integration in the aftermath of the 2015 and 2016 terrorist attacks.

    Following her talk, Karina join panel discussion on migration and identity politics with former ICWA fellows Malia Politzer (Spain, 2013-2015) and Jean-Benoit Nadeau (France, 1998-2000), moderated by ICWA trustee Pascal Saura.

    Bienvenue! You are invited to the Alliance Française to discover our programs for children from 1 to 18-years-old! Visit our beautiful building and classrooms dedicated to babies and toddlers. Meet our experienced teachers, native speakers trained to teach French in full immersion. Listen to a few songs in our warm and welcoming library and introduce your child to French and francophone culture through a comic books, novels and movies. Children can also attend one of our mini-classes to get a taste for French language classes at the Alliance. And for those who are interested in registering, placement tests will be available for classes beginning in January.

    The next Placement Test Night will be on November 20 from 5:30 to 9:00 pm for the Adult Winter Session  The evening is open house style so come take the test (typically ~20 minutes for the written part), meet the staff, and enjoy refreshments after.

    Come join us at AFDC and fine-tune your grammar in these three-hour review sessions.  Each Boot Camp review will take place twice, once in the morning and once in the evening so you can't miss out!  These Boot Camps are intended as a review for certain aspects of French grammar, so pick and choose what you need help with!
