Private French Classes for Kids & Teens
The Alliance Française de Washington provides customized, private one-on-one and semi-private instruction. Start at any time and benefit from flexible scheduling and personalized instruction with a qualified native French-speaker teacher.
Private classes are available for kids & teens ages 3 and older. If your kid or teen has had exposure to the French language, please schedule a placement test and fill out this private class request form.
Private classes can be scheduled
- In person at our Dupont location
- Off site at your home or another location (pending instructor availability)
- Online via Zoom
French Language Classes Online over Zoom
If you live far from the Alliance Française de Washington or have a busy schedule, French Language Classes over Zoom are the solution for you!
You’ll need:
- A webcam
- A headset
- Zoom installed on your computer
- In addition to the AFDC’s general policies, students must send a confirmation email to their teacher following each French language lesson. This email serves as proof that the class occurred.
Ready to start your private French language class?
- If you have previously studied French, please take a free placement test before requesting private classes.
- Once the placement test is completed, fill out this Request Form.
- The Youth Programs Coordinator will match your kid or teen with the appropriate instructor depending on their schedule and their linguistic skills and goals.

- Transportation fees vary from $8 to $25/class depending on the location.

Other Fees:
- Membership to the Alliance Française is required of all Alliance Française students.
- Books may be required depending on your objectives.
Private Classes Policies
In addition to our general policies:
- Tuition and fees must be paid before lessons can begin.
- Lesson confirmation: students must sign the form provided by their teacher at the end of each class to confirm the lesson.
- Rescheduling a lesson: students must give 24-hours notice to the teacher.
- Late cancellations result in 1 hour deducted from your credit.
- Private classes are intended for the student registered only.
- Open door policy: Your child and his/her safety are top priorities for us at the Alliance. Therefore, all our Private Classes for Kids & Teens are conducted with an open door. When Private Classes are held at your home, we ask that the class be held in an open area and that the parent/guardian be in the home at all times.
Semi-private Classes
AFDC does not currently match students. Students wishing to learn together may request semi-private classes. Students should have the same level and must submit placement tests to verify.
